Montanuniversitaet Leoben (Department of Applied Geosciences and Geophysics, Chair of Applied Geophysics) is hiring a part-time Project Researcher (m/f/d), 30 hours/week, for a 4-year position in an FWF-funded research project.

The project focuses on cavity detection using seismic waveform inversion. Work includes acquisition of a 9-component seismic dataset at a test site, plus processing and analysis with existing software.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support data acquisition for a 9-component seismic field dataset.
  • Process and analyze seismic data in an applied geophysics research workflow.
  • Contribute to inversion-focused geophysical interpretation and project outputs.

Requirements:

  • Completed Master thesis in geophysics or a comparable discipline.
  • Solid fundamentals in applied seismology and practical experience processing seismic data.
  • Required: basic Python programming skills and Linux experience.
  • Desirable: experience in refraction seismics and inversion problems.
  • Interest in pursuing a PhD.
