Montanuniversitaet Leoben (Department of Applied Geosciences and Geophysics, Chair of Raw Materials Mineralogy) is hiring a full-time University Assistant (m/f/d), reference 2603WPE, for a 4-year contract.

The project focuses on field and laboratory investigation of pegmatitic lithium deposits in Canada. Core tasks include geological mapping of pegmatite dikes, drill-core logging, and sampling. The analytical program characterizes mineralogy and geochemistry of lithium pegmatites to better understand deposit formation and derive exploration criteria.

Responsibilities include:

  • Field mapping, core logging, and sample collection in remote settings
  • Laboratory analysis and interpretation of mineralogical and geochemical data
  • Derivation of exploration criteria for lithium pegmatite systems
  • Scientific reporting and dissemination through journal articles, reports, and conference contributions

Requirements include:

  • Diploma/Master degree in geosciences
  • Strong English skills (written and spoken)
  • Ability and fitness for fieldwork in remote areas (helicopter-supported)
  • Independent work style and willingness to engage with complex research topics

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in mineral exploration (including internships)
  • Experience with optical microscopy and/or LA-ICP-MS methods
  • Experience with GIS and/or Leapfrog
