ORLEN Upstream Norway (OUN) has a vacancy for a Senior Exploration Geophysicist to join our team. We are looking for an active team player with the ability to find oil and gas through an effectively collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

The primary function of the role is the interpretation of geophysical data and other relevant information to evaluate opportunities that can make a significant contribution to OUN's exploration portfolio.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Evaluate basins and prospects to find oil and gas through the interpretation of geological and geophysical data
  • Actively collaborate with geologists, petrophysicists, engineers, and economists to establish hydrocarbon volume potential, chance of success, and project value
  • Convincingly present evaluations to local management and headquarters
  • Participate in and/or lead exploration license committees
  • Formulate recommendations for drilling, area studies, acreage acquisition, or relinquishment
  • Support operated drilling and seismic activities as required
  • Contribute to and/or lead license application round work in Norway
  • Contribute to data room evaluations for farm-in/farm-out activities
  • Contribute to geological and geophysical projects carried out in cooperation with headquarters teams
  • Guide and coordinate external geophysical studies
  • Provide recommendations related to geophysical data
  • Provide input on geophysical software and geophysical databases
  • Monitor competitor and regional exploration activity on the NCS

Qualifications

Education & experience

  • Master’s degree in Geophysics or relevant discipline is preferred with a minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience

Language

  • Fluent in English, oral and written

Technical requirements

  • Familiarity with the dominant petroleum plays on the NCS and the capacity to envisage new ideas and concepts
  • Advanced knowledge of geophysics and tools for geophysical interpretation
  • Advanced knowledge of the latest geophysical technological advances and best practices
  • Good understanding of seismic AVO and inversion analyses, and the application of DHI analyses
  • Competent user of geophysical software such as Petrel, RocDok, GeoTeric, and Paleoscan
  • Knowledge of prospect evaluation tools such as GeoX
  • Experience with and knowledge of well planning, drilling, and field developments activities
  • Knowledge of the petroleum value chain and exploration business development
  • Have completed relevant geophysical and geological courses
  • Up to date on new technologies, developments, and best practices
