ORLEN Upstream Norway (OUN) has a vacancy for a Senior Exploration Geologist to join our team. We are looking for an active team player with the ability to find oil and gas through an effectively collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

The primary function of the role is the interpretation of geological data and other relevant information to evaluate opportunities that can make a significant contribution to OUN's exploration portfolio.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Evaluate basins and prospects to find oil and gas through the interpretation of geological and geophysical data
  • Actively collaborate with geophysicists, petrophysicists, engineers, and economists to establish hydrocarbon volume potential, chance of success, and project value
  • Convincingly present evaluations to local management and headquarters
  • Participate in and/or lead exploration license committees
  • Formulate recommendations for drilling, area studies, acreage acquisition, or relinquishment
  • Support operated and non-operated drilling activities as required
  • Contribute to and/or lead license application round work in Norway
  • Contribute to data-room evaluations for farm-in/farm-out activities
  • Guide and coordinate geological studies with external contractors and headquarters
  • Provide recommendations related to geological data
  • Provide input on geological software and geological databases
  • Monitor competitor and regional exploration activity on the NCS
  • Follow up on drilled exploration wells (both as partner and operator)
  • Contribute to geological projects carried out in cooperation with headquarters teams

Qualifications

Education & experience

  • Master’s degree in Geology or a relevant discipline is preferred, along with minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience

Language

  • Fluent in English, oral and written

Technical requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of geology and tools for evaluating well data and seismic interpretation
  • Advanced knowledge of prospect evaluation tools such as GeoX
  • Good understanding of well data acquisition and management 
  • Good understanding of stratigraphy, sedimentology, and structural geology of petroleum basins 
  • Competent user of relevant software such as Petrel, ArcGIS, GeoTeric, and  Paleoscan
  • Experience with and knowledge of well planning, drilling, and field development activities
  • Knowledge of the petroleum value chain and exploration business development
  • Familiarity with the dominant petroleum plays on the NCS and the capacity to envisage new ideas and concepts
  • Up to date with the latest geological technological advances and best practices
  • Have completed relevant geological and geophysical courses
