For individuals who can take the initiative, but work well within a team.Job Purpose: The Geophysicist is one of the members of a survey team and is responsible for all aspects relating to the quality of the recorded geophysical data, the completeness of the survey, and the interpretation of the geophysical records. He is also responsible for writing the final report and overseeing the production of charts, in coordination with the Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Survey Planning - To plan for geophysical data acquisition as per the scope, specification, and schedule for survey.
Survey Quality Assurance - Follow appropriate work instructions for geophysical data acquisition.
Pre-Mob checks - To check all geophysical survey equipment and GLOG / GPLOT data logging and Interpretation systems in workshop, prior to mobilisation on the survey vessel/site.
Mobilisation - To actively participate in installation, interfacing, setting to work and configuration of all survey equipment and systems, and undertake their calibration/verification on the field.
Deployment of Survey Equipment: To acquire adequate knowledge and skills in effective deployment of geophysical Survey equipment, Systems and data interpretation techniques, for meeting the objectives of the Survey work.
Online Quality Control of the Geophysical Data Acquired: - Ensure the quality and adequacy of the data acquired to enable further interpretation and Reporting, and finally meeting the objectives of the survey work. Order re-runs if data quality is not adequate.
Data Backups / Archival: To ensure geophysical data is acquired as per approved survey procedures and duly annotate, backup and archive the same regularly in the field.
Data Processing to Reporting: To carryout detailed interpretation of geophysical data in the field, and prepare preliminary field reports and final reports for clients.
QC of charts / Drawings: Carryout QC of all the geophysical data / results of interpretations as plotted on charts/drawings accompanying the Report on Survey.
Soil sampling: To acquire drop-core / vibro-core samples of sea-bed, carryout onfield analysis of the samples, preparation of soil sample log sheet, proper sealing of samples and QC of lab-test reports received.
Any other work as assigned by the Company
Principal Working Relationships:
To report to PC / PM, whilst deputed on field jobs.
To report to Resource Manager & Reporting Manager whilst in Office, for day to day administration, competence Assessment, training and career development
Qualifications required:
M.Sc./M.Tech – Geophysics / Geology or related subjectsSkills / experience required to do the job:
3+ years
Experience in offshore surveys.
Knowledge of geophysical equipment and software in use.
High degree of technical reporting skills in the English language
Must have skills: Acquisition, processing, and interpretation of SSS, SBP & Magnetometer data. Soil sampling/analysis using Grab sampler / Gravity corer; Field reporting
Good to have skills: UHR (Acquisition / Processing); Good command in English & report writing skills
